Rocky Mountain Featherbed, van-life med RMFB

Nylon | Tafetta

This is something crucial for our Original Down Vest, Tafetta 260T/70D is not only a great name, but also one of the greatest things to come out of the 70’s (in our opinion).

There are however some key differences with our 2021 material and the one used in the 70’s – first it’s 100 % Recycled Nylon and we use no chemical coatings to keep it water-repellent. We believe this to be an easy measure to make our garments more sustainable.

Then how do we keep it water—repellent? A normal Nylon Tafetta has a threadcount of 210 and needs a chemical coating of some sort to keep the water out. What we managed is a 260 warp threadcount, providing a higher density and a better quality. At the same time the breathability improved which is great for the longevity of a down garment, something we're big fans of.

Leather | Chrome free

Our leather yoke is synonymous with the brand and has visually stayed the same since 1967.

We do some things differently in 2020's though, we now go after the standards of REACH, this is to minimize chemical and water use.

This is the second measure for the environment, however this affects the production in another way, as our new tanning method runs for 10 days where a chrome tanning only takes one.

Down | RDS Certified

Down is something of a controversy, it is one of the greatest materials for warmth in any garment. There is however a great deal of bad down, poor qualities and even poorer conditions for the animals.

There are things we as companies and you as a customer can do. We at RMFB only source high quality down of 90% Down and 10 % feathers, which have been RDS certified. We believe that sustainability is the only way forward and is the best way to produce high quality garments.

Zippers | YKK

Using YKK for our inner pocket was an easy decision, we ourselves have no mercy for zippers not working.
